Returns in customer accounts
Let logged-in customers request a return from their order page.
Last updated October 11, 2026
ResReturn adds a Request return action to eligible orders in Shopify customer accounts. The whole request — items, reason, resolution and confirmation — happens in your customer's account. They are never sent to another website.
Before you start
- Your store must use customer accounts (Settings → Customer accounts).
- The action only appears on orders that can be returned: fulfilled or delivered (per your policy), within your return window, and with items that are not final sale.
Add the return action
- 1Go to Settings → Customer accounts and click Customize (the checkout and accounts editor).
- 2Open the Order status or Orders page and select Apps.
- 3Add Return requests from ResReturn and click Save.
What customers do
- 1Open an order and choose Request return.
- 2Select the items and quantities, a reason for each item, and how they want to be refunded (original payment method, store credit, or exchange, depending on your policy).
- 3Submit. They see a confirmation with the return number and next steps, and can come back to the same order to see the status.
The return is created in Shopify as a return on the order, so it also appears in your Shopify admin.
